Classics & Sportscar - special offers

MG Magnette ZA 1955
The ZA was debuted in 1953 to eager MG saloon enthusiasts. It made good use of the
BMC sourced, 1489cc, B-Series engine which gave this mid-sized family car good
performance for its day. The low slung four door design looks almost Italian from
some angles, with the traditional MG grille raked to give it an aerodynamic shape.
Inside the Magnette was well equipped with leather trim and wooden dash panel.
There has been a real increase in interest in these MG saloons in recent years. The
earlier YA and YB models have soured in value and top ZA and ZB cars are
now topping £ 8,000. Recently we sold an excellent Farina Magnette, at a very good
price for what used to be considered the ugly duckling of the family.
So what is this ZA example like? On the good side it has very nice original leather
front and back, and the wood to the dash is most presentable. The carpets are
quite new and all in all the interior is a nice place to be. The instruments, steering
wheel etc. are all as they should be. Mechanically all seems fine, and the car drives
well with no unwelcome noises. Structurally the car seems sound. The previous
owner ensured that this was the case with extensive work having been done to
the critical areas underneath.
So why is this car not £ 7,950? Well I suppose it is the paintwork really.
Generally it is perfectly presentable. It could do with a good polish, and there
is a little rust showing to the offside door skin at the bottom. The front wings
are fibre glass replacements. This was commonly done in the old days and is
not at all noticeable. The fit of the drivers door could be improved, and we may
well do this prior to sale. The chromework is presentable but not perfect.
If you want an honest period MG sports saloon, without breaking the bank,
this could be for you. Modest outlay and a bit of spare time could also lift
the car considerably. Do come and have a look and see what you think.

Standard Super Eight 1956
The trick with classic cars is finding the really good ones. Examples where
the previous owner has expended way more in time and money than
could ever be reasonably recouped. These cars are restored with a
passion. The very thick file that accompanies this car is testament to
such a rebuild. This file also features the car's original service book
from the 1960s with corresponding bills. There are also lots of
photos of the restoration work in progress. An original parts book
and sales brochure are also included.
The car was first registered in Devon in January 1956 and only
completed some 12,000 Mls in the first 12 yrs. Being a Super
Eight there are features such as a heater, interior lights, and a
boot that can be accessed from inside the car. The model also
featured a four speed gearbox when most rivals suffered with
only three. The comprehensive restoration started in 1989 and
took some five years to complete. The car has been seen regularly
at the Yeovil Festival of Transport where I am sure
it will have been much admired.
I had a short drive today and simply could not find fault with
the car. It really is like a two year old, rather than a 52 year old.
Mileage from new is thought to be around 57,000 Mls. Highly
recommended. The press is full of a boom in useable classic car
sales and values. Hello, this is it! Over 40 mpg and in a
condition that should ensure a reliable and totally
useable car. Buy it soon or the price goes up!
